I graduated from the joint master’s degree programme Molecular Techniques in Life Science, organised by KI, KTH and SU, in the summer of 2025, and I joined Hanna Johannesson’s lab to do my PhD in ecology and evolution in March 2026. I have always had a deep interest in basic research, specifically evolution and genome biology, which was what led me to this opportunity. My research dives into topics that link these two fields using basidiomycetes as a research subject. Following up on the group’s findings in Marasmius oreades, my project will delve into understanding if other basidiomycetes present the same germline sequestration pattern using mainly genomics approaches. We are also hoping to investigate if there are any patterns between these species genet size, substitution and mutation rate, and their respective lifespan.
